Minimum govt salary Rs 6660, maximum Rs 90,000
New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) The Sixth Pay Commission today recommended new salary scales for 4.5 million Central Government employees ranging from Rs 6,660 to Rs 90,000, which is expected to translate into Rs 12,561 crore in additional payouts in 2008-09 for the exchequer.
The existing salary structure is in the range of Rs 4,860 and Rs 30,000.
Mr Justice B N Srikrishna, who headed the panel, personally submitted the report to Finance Minister P Chidambaram at his North Block office here today.
Entry level salary for government employees will be Rs 6,660 a month while the maximum goes up to Rs 90,000 a month for Cabinet Secretary. Revised salary fixed for a Secretary is Rs 80,000.
The changes are effective from January 1, 2006.
In the event of acceptance, the Government will incur a one-time burden of Rs 18,060 crore on payment of arrears with the salary increase of 77 per cent for the starting level employees.
Twenty of 28 state governments were expected to adopt the recommendations and higher tax receipts would enable them to meet the additional spending.
The Finance Ministry will consider the report and submit its recommendations to the union cabinet.
