INLD stages walkout to protest amendment bill

Chandigarh, Mar 24 (UNI) The 'Haryana State Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) Amendment Bill 2008' was passed by the state assembly today amid a walkout by the opposition INLD which alleged that it had been brought to benefit a certain individual.

The Vidhan Sabha also passed bills seeking to make state government's approval essential for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) after their technical evaluation and enhancement of additional pension of ex-MLAs.

The Haryana State Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) Amendment Bill 2008 would provide that the Haryana State Administrative Reforms Chairman would not be disqualified as MLA for holding office of profit.

The INLD staged a walkout after INLD member Sushil Indora alleged that the bill had been brought to benefit a certain individual. Congress MLA Karan Dalal was appointed Haryana State Administrative Reforms Chairman a couple of months ago.

As per the Haryana Special Economic Zone (Amendment) Bill, 2008, after technical evaluation of the projects, approval of the State Government was essential primarily because of the financial benefits on account of fiscal concessions as envisaged in the project and overall view of the sustainbility of the projects and a need to assess the importance of the projects at the level of Government.

The Haryana Legislative Assembly (Allowances and Pension of Members) Act 1975 sought to increase additional pension for ex MLA and ex MLC from Rs 600 to Rs 1000 per month and it would also cover an additional period of not less than 90 days.

The all three bills wdere introduced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala and passed by voice vote.
