Haryana jails to have jammers and video-conferencing
Chandigarh, Mar 24 (UNI) All jails in Haryana would be equipped with the facilities of jammers and video conferencing.
Replying to a question in the state assembly, Parliamentary Affairs Randeep Singh Surjewala said the jammers were being provided to the jails in view of misuse of mobile phones by hardcore criminals lodged in jails and to prevent their criminal activities being engineered from within jail premises.
Mr Surjewala said jammers had already been set up in the jails in Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, Sirsa, Gurgaon and Bhiwani. An expenditure of Rs 43.50 lakh would be spent on each jammer.
He said as many as 39 mobiles were recovered from various Haryana jails from April one, 2007 to February 29, 2008.
He said the facility of video-conferencing was being introduced in the wake of increasing instances of criminals fleeing from police custody during their appearance in the court.
