Government bans fishing vessels in EEZ
New Delhi, Mar 24 (UNI) Ministry of Agriculture Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries has banned fishing in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) beyond territorial waters on the east and the west coast of the country.
For conservation and effective management of fishery resources and also for sea safety reasons, fishing by all fishing vessels in the EEZ beyond territorial waters on the east coast, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and west coast, including Lakshadweep Islands, has been banned, an official release said here today.
In the east coast, the ban will be effective for a period of 60 days commencing from April 15 to June 15, 2008 and in the west, for a period of 47 days starting from June 15 to July 31, 2008.
All maritime States/UTs and other concerned authorities have been informed through a press release to note the decision of the Central Government, the release added.
