Curfew, rain dampens Holi spirit in Manipur
Imphal, Mar 24 (UNI) Incessant rainfall since past few days and night curfew in Manipur have affected the Yaoshang (Holi) celebrations, which is normally observed for five days in the state.
The festival is marked with sports meet, competitions and 'Thabal Chongba' (dance in the moonlit night). However, continuous rain marred the enthusiam and fervour of the people.
The Thabal Chongba, participated by young boys and girls, could not be organised following curfew imposed by the government from 1800 to 0500 hrs daily, for the seventh consecutive day.
The curfew was imposed on March 17 to avert the carnage after 15 migrant workers were killed by militants in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishenpur districts.
