Villagers attack suspected Maoist in Bengal

Behrampore, Mar 23 (UNI) A suspected maoist was seriously injured after an irate mob of villagers attacked him at Tehata under Hariharpada police station in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, police said today.

Superintendent of Police Basak Sengupta said here that the villagers attacked one Swapan Sutradhar along with three of his assaociates, including a woman, suspecting them as maoists late last night.

Swapan was seriously injured while his associates managed to flee from the spot after firing few rounds, the SP said adding the injured had been admitted to a nearby hospital.

However, no one had been injured in the incident, he said.

Police further said they suspect Swapan to be a maoist hailing from Birbhum district of the state.
