Unseasonal rains affect jaggery stocks

Kolhapur, Mar 23 (UNI) Unseasonal rains lashing parts of the district since last three days have resulted in huge losses for farmers as stocks of Jaggery have become wet.

The jaggery stocks are lying at the traders sheds in the Kolhapur Zilla Agriculture Products Market Committee premises as gur trading is closed due to holidays on account of festivals, traders said here today.

Sugarcane farmers have been already passing through a bad phase due to the poor rates they are getting for their crops, they added.

The work of cane cutting has also been affected as land has become wet and muddy and it is difficult to take out tractor-trolleys or trucks in the fields, he added.

The unseasonal rains have also affected brick making business as well as jowar crops harvesting in the district.
