Nandankanan Zoo launches adopt animal programme

Bhubaneswar, Mar 23 (UNI) Now you can adopt an animal or bird and believe that you are bringing them up at home, while they are actually being taken care by professionals at the Nandankanan Zoo.

Under the ''Adopt an Animal'' programme launched by the Nandankanan Zoo, one can be a ''Zoo Parent'' and adopt an animal or bird. You would have the joy and pride of knowing that you are providing better care and welfare to that animal.

''The Adopt-An-Animal is a great way to add a fascinating animal or bird species to your family,'' said Nandankanan Zoo Director Ajit Kumar Pattnaik.

''Your new wild child would not really be coming to live with you but you will become a foster parent of sorts,'' he said with a smile.

The Zoo, famous for its white tiger and lion safari, has launched this scheme to provide world-class care, nutritional requirements, best medical care, up-gradation and enrichment of the enclosures and quality food to its inhabitants.

One could even adopt the Lion Safari by paying Rs 10 lakh per year or Rs 5 lakh for the White Tiger Safari. For each of the white tigers, Royal Bengal Tigers, Lion and Hippopotamus, the adoption charges has been fixed at Rs 1 lakh per year.

Similarly, for an Indian one-horned Rhinoceros, the adoption charges for a year had been fixed at Rs 1.5 lakhs, while for Pangolin it is Rs 40,000, Jaguar Rs 60,000, Orang Utan Rs 70,000 and Chimpanazee Rs 60,000.
