57-year-old Brit woman finds lump is baby, not cancer

London, March 23 : A 57-year-old British woman who feared that she had ovarian cancer has been told by medics that she is pregnant.

Susan Tollefsen expected bad news when she went to hospital for a scan. However, doctors told her that she was 7 months pregnant with a baby girl.

Susan will be one of the oldest known mothers in Britain when she has a Caesarean to deliver the child. Several IVF treatments failed prior to this pregnancy, which she thought she miscarried.

Special needs teacher Susan and partner Nick Mayer, 46, spent 15,000 pounds on fertility treatment in Russia and Poland over three years after they were turned away by UK fertility clinics because of Susan's age.

"In an ideal world people should have children younger, but almost anything is possible nowadays," The Sun quoted her, as saying.

Both Susan and Nick were worried when she was sent for a scan in January after her GP noticed a "hard abdominal mass".

"I was lying on an examin-ation table thinking, 'I'm going to die' when I was told I was pregnant," she said.

"I was speechless. It will be our first baby and it's a miracle," she added.
