Sea water enters Chinnapalam coastal hamlet
Rameswaram Island, Tamil Nadu, Mar 22 (UNI) Anxious moments prevailed at Chinnapalam coastal hamlet, near Pamban, here as sea water entered the houses following rough weather, today.
Officials sources said the sea water had marooned atleast 40 houses of this hamlet. However, after a few hours, the water receded. As a precautionary measure, the residents of the hamlet were asked to move to safer places.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Department had not issued 'tokens' to the fishermen to venture into the sea for fishing owing to the meteorological department's warning. The weather forecast said wind with speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph was expected in Palk Bay and Gulf of Mannar and hence, fishing folk were advised not to venture into the sea.
In view of this, about 200 mechanised fishing boats remained off the sea, an official said.
