Pondy to implement 'Deep Sea Fishing Scheme'

Puducherry, Mar 22 (UNI) The Puducherry administration will implement 'Deep Sea Fishing Scheme' with private participation, Fisheries Minister M O H F Shajahan said today.

Inaugurating a workshop here, Mr Shajahan said the Scheme would enhance the yield from the present 65,000 tonnes to 75,000 tonnes a year.

Speaking on the occasion, PMK Parliamentary Party Leader M Ramadass urged the administration to allocate more funds for the development of fishing activities in the Union Territory.

Giving thrust to fishing would help generate job opportunities and improve the economic development of the Union Territory, he added.
