Panchayat chiefs threaten to go on agitation

Puducherry,Mar 21(UNI)Puducherry State Village Panchayat Presidents Coordination of Federation(PSVPPCF) today threatened to continue with their agitations if the government failed to consider their demand for devolution of powers.

Addressing the press here, Federation President Nagamani and Vice-President Jaganathan said the Planning Commission provided a 20 per cent higher allocation to the Union Territory for 2008-09 compared to last year.

The amount should be granted to the local bodies directly and not through the legislators.

They also wanted the entire Legislators Area Development Funds given to local bodies and the creation of a draft financial plan for village panchayats and other local body institutions.
