Pakistan shuts down 3 FM radio stations in Swat
Peshawar, Mar 21 : Pakistani security forces on Friday shut down three FM radio stations in North West Frontier Province's Swat Valley and arrested eight employees after the stations aired a pro-Taliban leader Maulana Fazlullah's speech.
According to the military statement, weapons, ammunition, audiocassettes and "provocative literature" were seized, and the stations' transmission equipment was dismantled.
The statement also said that the raids on the stations were conducted as they were operating without license.
"We believe one of Fazlullah's cassettes was used by the channels," said a police official.
"The man is on run ... law enforcement agencies are combing the area," the Dawn quoted the official, as saying.
