Applications invited for Presidential Award of Certificate

Chandigarh, Mar 21 (UNI) The Chandigarh Administration has invited applications for the Presidential Award of Certificate of Honour to scholars of Sanskrit, Tamil, Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and Persian and for Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman for Young scholars in these fields.

UT Home and Education Secretary Krishna Mohan said that under the award a one time monetary grant of Rs 5 lakh for the scholars of Sanskrit and Tamil and Rs 50,000 per annum for the scholars of Persian, Arabic and Pali/Prakrit will be presented by the President to each awardee.

There are 15 awards for Sanskrit, 3 each for Arabic and Persian and one each for Pali/Prakrit and Tamil.

The award is conferred on the eve of Independence Day in recognition of the outstanding contribution of various scholars of eminence over 60 years of age, in the field of Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian and Pali/Prakrit. Five awards are given to young scholars of Classical Tamil in the age group of 30-40 years with a one time cash grant of Rs 1 lakh, added Mr Mohan.

The Education Secretary said that 5 awards for Sanskrit, 1 award each for Arabic, Persian and Pali/Prakrit, carrying one time cash grant of Rs 1 lakh, are given to the young scholars under Maharhshi Badrayan Vyas Samman.
