UP Guv, CM greet people on Holi, Barawafat
Lucknow, Mar 20 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar and Chief Minister Mayawati today extended good wishes to the people on the festival of Holi and birthday of Prophet Mohammed Id-E-Milad-Un-Nabi (Barawafat).
In a message, Mr Rajeswar said ''the teachings of the Prophet Mohammed are still relevant to humanity. His teachings mould the true values of the society, which is instrumental in bringing about social changes in a harmonious manner.'' Ms Mayawati said ''Holi -- the festival of colours, enthusiasm and gaiety is a symbol of victory of good over evil. It coneys the message of unity in diversity.'' Holi is an occasion to shun hatred, malevolence and intolerance and strengthen the feeling of love, brotherhood and social harmony, she added.
The CM further appealed to the people to celebrate the festival in peace.
Extending her greetings to the Muslim brethren, Ms Mayawati said the Prophet was born at a time when the Arab society was caught up in vortex of ill-customs and women were subjected to harassment.
The Prophet gave the message of peace, brotherhood and harmony creating mutual trust among people, she said, adding that the dream of an ideal society could be realised following the path of the Prophet.
