UP govt approves Powerloom promotion schemes

Lucknow, Mar 20 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today approved Powerloom promotion schemes to provide financial help to the weavers of the state through 50 per cent subsidy.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mayawati here this evening.

According to the details, those powerloom weavers or weavers societies, who or which have been registered and are Below Poverty Line(BPL) can avail this scheme. The weaver can receive a maximum of Rs one lakh as subsidy.

Besides this, the weavers will also be given financial support maximum of Rs 45,000 for construction of their loom.

A committee at the district and state level would also be constituted to monitor the implementation of the scheme.

The state government had already sanctioned Rs 4.67 lakhs during the current financial year for the scheme.

The main purpose of the scheme is to strengthen the powerloom sector in the state, so that high and good quality cloths are manufactured in the state.

The cabinet also approved the proposed agreement to be signed between the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the state government on the financial revival of ailing urban cooperative banks in the state.

Under the agreement, RBI will constitute a Task Force to revive these urban cooperative banks by lending them support in Information Technology (IT) and Human Resources Development.

The UP government also gave its nod to set up state Open School Council, which will replace the existing correspondent course conducted by Correspondent Education Institute, Allahabad.

The cabinet approved a proposal to provide financial help to the families below povtery line and backwards for marriage of their daughters and for medical treatment.
