Two Kerala rice varieties receive GI

Palakkad, Kerala, Mar 20 (UNI) Two unique rice varieties of Kerala -- 'Palakkadan Matta' and 'Navara Rice'-- have received the Geographical Indicators (GI).

This is the first time in the state two rice varieties had received Geographical Indication, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan declared at a function here.

He said the government was committed to preserve traditional seeds which had commercial value.
