TN police stations to go high-tech

Chennai, Mar 20 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today announced that all police stations in the State would be provided with broadband internet connectivity with a view to aiding transmission of urgent information regarding crimes and law and order situations.

Presenting the budget for 2008-09 in the Assembly today, Finance Minister K Anbazhagan said the Government had allocated Rs 68 crore to provide broadband connections to all police stations in the State under the Police Modernisation Fund.

He informed that to minimise road accidents, especially on road intersections in National Highways in the State, the Government would provide speed breakers, warning boards and lighting facilities.

The contribution of the State Government to the road safety fund would be increased from Rs six crore to Rs ten crore and would be utilised for implementing accident prevention schemes, he said.

Mr Anbazhagan disclosed that the total allocation for the police department was increased to Rs 2,427 crore during 2008-2009, compared to Rs 1,346 crore in 2005-2006.
