Tension after desecration of Thevar's statue

Theni, Tamil Nadu, Mar 20 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Badrakalipuram Village near Bodi following the desecration of the statue of Veteran Freedom Fighter and Icon of Mukkulathor Community Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar here today.

Police sources said the desecration of the statue was noticed this morning by the residents of the village.

As the news spread a large number of people and members of various Thevar federations gathered at the spot creating a tense situation.

Later, they resorted to a road roko agitation demanding immediate arrest of the culprits on the Theni-Bodi Highway disrupting vehicular traffic for a couple of hours.

On information, senior police and revenue officials rushed to the site and pacified the agitating villagers.

A large number of police personnel were deployed in the villages and other sensitive parts of Theni District to defuse the tense situation. Police have launched a massive hunt to nab the culprits.
