Statement from Govt demanded over treatment to Taslima
New Delhi, Mar 19 (UNI) The Government today faced charges of mentally torturing exiled Bangaldeshi writer Taslima Nasreen to force her to leave the country, and was pressed to come out with a statement on the treatment meted out to the author.
''Ever since, Ms Nasreen came to Kolkata after being socially forced to leave her country, she has been facing difficulties and was forced to live like a prisoner, which is very unfortunate for a country like India,'' said Mr Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi of the BJP, raising the issue during the Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha.
He said the West Bengal Government drove her out of Kolkata just to please the minority community which was angry with the Left government for the Nandigram killings.
The writer was then taken to Jaipur and to Delhi and lodged in an undisclosed place where she was not allowed to meet anyone or even get treatment, as she herself told the media. In fact the country has abandoned its centutries-old traditions and values of hospitality, he said.
The Government was forcing her leave the country, because she refused to bow down, said Mr Chaturvedi In a country like India which had always assimilated foreigners and dissidents, the treatment meted out to Taslima was shocking, he said and demanded that the Government come out with the explanation.
