Opposition Cong takes exception to reported statement of FM

Chandigarh, Mar 20 (UNI) The Opposition Congress today created a stir in the state assembly taking objection to the reported statement of Finance Minister that the government may levy taxes to increase the power tarrif and bus fares.

As soon as the question hour ended, Makhan Singh (Cong) was on his feet pointing to media reports quoting Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal in this context.

Referring to reports appearing in a section of the media today, Leader of the Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal pointed out that the government had even issued an official notification in this context.

"Can the Finance Minister do this when the Vidhan Sabha is in session"?, she asked.

The Finance Minister then intervened to tell the House that no such notification had been issued.

"There is a Privileges Committee of the House, the matter can be refered to it and I will be ready to face the Committee ", Mr Badal added. The issue was dropped thereafter and the Opposition made no further reference on the matter.
