Muslim NGOs condemn harassment Muslim youth by CoD
Bangalore, Mar 20 (UNI) The Federation of Muslim NGOs today strongly condemned the 'harassment' of Muslim youth in Karnataka in the name of investigation on terrorist activities by Corps of Detectives.
Addressing a press conference on behalf of the Federation here, Saad Belgami, President of Jamata-e-Islami Hind city unit, alleged that school children were being 'terrorised' by CoD in the guise of terror related investigations.
Stating that recently some officers of the CoD had raided a Muslim educational institution near Hassan and interrogated not only its Principal and the faculty, but also several students in the campus he alleged, "This act, apart from being shameful and inhuman, indicate that some officers of the CoD are actually hell-bent on maligning the entire Muslim community".
He said that despite assurances by top police officers and statements by the Police officers to the effect that there was no evidence of any terrorist network being active, the process of defaming the community continued.
Dr Belgami alleged that already the COD had officially or otherwise arrested hundreds of Muslim youth in many parts of the state without any prima face evidence and had interrogated many without any basis in the city, Hubli, Gulbarga and Raichur.
"Because of the harassment and insecurity many youth had fled from their homes", he claimed.
