Mother, son found dead on river bank in Poonch

Jammu, Mar 20 (UNI) A woman and her two-year-old son were found dead on the bank of a rivulet in the Surankote area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources today said.

Some passers-by yesterday noticed the bodies of Safia Bagum, 32, wife of Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Khettan, and her son lying on the bank of the river which falls between Faislabad and Draba villages.

''They immediately informed Draba and Surankot police,'' sources said, adding the bodies were shifted to the Surankot hospital by police thereafter.

''Some marks of violence were visible on the bodies. Police suspect it a double murder case and have started inquest proceedings under section 174 of RPC,'' sources said.

The family members of the deceased, however, claimed that the duo had gone missing the previous night and they were searching for them.

The bodies of the deceased were later handed over to the relatives for their funeral.
