Hearing on Rizwanur Rahman case ends today
Kolkata, Mar 20 (UNI) Advocate General Balai Roy today wrapped up his week-long argument on the Rizwanur Rahman case before Calcutta High Court, charging the CBI with abusing its power.
Arguing before the bench of Justice Dipankar Dutta, Mr Roy said the High Court had ordered the investigation into the death of Rizwanur Rahman, who was found dead on a railway track near Biddhannagar railway station in the city's eastern part. Rizwanur, a graphic designer and computer teacher married Priyanka, daughter of a city-based businessman Ashok Todi.
''It was surprising that the investigating agency had lodged a case against Ashok Todi, father of Rizwanur's wife Priyanka Todi and some senior policemen, before beginning the investigation,'' he said.
''The court did not order the agency to file cases against the accused before the investigation and what the CBI did was not in compliance with the law,'' Mr Roy said.
The wek-long argument of the Advocate General was laced with heated verbal attacks against CBI, which submitted its findings in the investigation before the court nearly a month ago.
The hearing would continue and counsels of the police officials charged in the case would resume argument before the bench next week.
