Food items retail prices show mixed trend during week-end

New Delhi, Mar 20 (UNI) Retail prices of farm commodities monitored by the Department of Consumer Affairs have generally remained steady or shown mixed trend over the week ending March 14, 2008.

During the week ending on March 14, prices of wheat remained steady at all the reporting centres. However, wheat price increased at Patna.

Prices of sugar remained steady at throughout the country barring showing a little increase at Delhi, Jaipur and Bhubaneshwar.

Gram dal's rate remained steady at majority of the centres but registered increasing trend at Guwahati, Patna and Bangalore.However, its prices came down at Bhubaneshwar.

Similarly, rates of tur dal remained steady at all centres, showing an increase at Guwahati and decrease at Patna.

In Delhi, prices of rice, gram, tur, mustard oil, vanaspati, potato and onion held steady for one week. In fact, prices of wheat, atta, milk and salt remained steady for past one month.

But the rates of tea increased from Rs 108 to Rs 109 per kg and that of sugar from Rs 17 to Rs 18 per kg.

Out of 1.41 million tonnes of pulses contracted for import by PEC, MMTC, NAFED and STC so far, 1.1 million tonne has arrived at Indian ports out of which 0.98 MT has been disposed of.
