CPI(M) National Congress to begin on Mar 29
Coimbatore, Mar 20 (UNI) The 19th party Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) will be held here from March 29.
Party Tamil Nadu Secretary N Varadharajan told newspersons here today that top party leaders would speak on various national and state issues during the Congress.
Prior to the Congress, the party would organise seminars on subjects like 'Centre-State Relations and Problems,' Alternative Plan to Safeguard People' and 'Pressure in Cultivation' for two-days from tomorrow at Chennai, Tirupur, Nagapattinam and Tirunelveli, he added.
About 35 international Communist leaders from various countries, besides over 800 Indian leaders would participate in the event.
Meetings of the party Politburo followed by Central Committee will also be held on March 28 prior to the Congress, he added.
Mr Varadharajan said a discussion on 'how to improve the present functioning of Governments in the three CPI(M)-ruled States would also be held during the Congress.
The Congress will conclude with a massive rally on April 3, he added.
Answering a question, Mr Varadharajan said the BJP in Karnataka was unnecessarily creating tension for both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on the Hoganekkal issue. Stating that the Centre should interfere to find a remedy to the issue of sharing river water between the States, he said due to non-involvement of the Centre the Cauvery issue could not be solved even after 17 years.
He said his party was opposed to frequent transfers of IAS and IPS officers.
