TATA steel to set up multi product SEZ at Gopalpur

Bhubaneswar, Mar 19 (UNI) Orissa Industries Minister Biswa Bhusan Harichandan today informed the Assembly that TATA steel has proposed to set up a multi-Product Special Economic Zone at Gopalpur in Ganjam district.

Replying to a question of CPI member N N Reddy, the minister said the state owned Industrial Development Corporation had acquired and provided provided 3733.464 acre of land at Gopalpur to the steel major in this regard.

Mr Harichandan said process for acquiring 485 acres of land for the proposed Titanium Dioxide plant to be set up by M/S Saraf Agencies Pvt Ltd was on.

In addition to it the expansion programme of the Gopalpur port was also taken up, he said.

The Minister said till today 3124 small industries were registered in Ganjam district of which 1061 were defunct.

The government, he said had cancelled the registration of industrial units whose revival was remote. Process was on to identify the industrial units which could be revived.

After the identification process was over steps would be taken for the revival of those industires as per the IPR 2007.
