Sonia congratulates TN CM

Chennai, Mar 19 (UNI) Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today telephoned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi and congratulated him for the election of DMK, Congress and CPI(M) candidates to the Rajya Sabha from the state assembly.

An official release here said that Ms Gandhi telephoned the DMK leader this afternoon and expressed her happiness over the election.

Ms Gandhi had telephoned Mr Karunanidhi and requested that the party be given two seats.

The party had fielded Union Minister G K Vasan and party Spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan and the two were among six candidates, elected unopposd to the Upper House.
