India releases jailed Pakistan spy

Wagah, Mar.19 : India on Wednesday handed over Pakistani national Jamal Qureshi to the Pakistani Rangers at the border checkpost here.

Jamal was accused of spying and circulating fake currency notes and disrupting peace. However, a fast track court acquitted him after the prosecution failed to prove charges of anti-national activity against Qureshi.

According to reports Jamal , a resident of Sakkhar had arrived India on April 2, 2005 along with a relative by the Samjhauta Express.

Qureshi informed that he had exchanged Pakistani currency for 18 Indian Rs.100 currency notes from a private money changer at the border, which later proved to be fake when he was caught red handed using them in the market.

Jamal said that he had come to India to attend the marriage ceremony of his uncle Rahmat Ali's daughter in Jalal Nagar village of Shahjahanpur District. After he was arrested, he was abandoned by his uncle, but got the support of some 'wellwishers' till his release.

Commenting about the Sarabjit Singh case, Qureshi said he had been hearing about it in the media, and was of the view that all Pakistani and Indian prisoners should be freed on humanitarian grounds.
