Punjab Assembly passes resolution to defer panchayat polls
Chandigarh, Mar 19 (UNI) The Punjab Assembly today passed a resolution recommending to State Election Commission to defer the Panchayat election which was scheduled to be held on April 7.
A resolution recommending postponment of the polls moved in the house by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and later it was passed unanimously.
Moving the resolution, the Chief Minister said the polls needed to be deffered in view of the forthcoming wheat harvesting season and annual examination of universities.
The leader of opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal also supported the resolution.
The Chief Minister informed the house that the resolution would be forwarded to State Election Commission by the government.
