Newly married woman committed suicide

Phagwara, Mar 19 (UNI) A newly married woman allegedly committed suicide by setting herself afire in her house in Dashmesh Nagar here last night, police today said.

According to the police, the woman, Paramjit Kaur, wife of Sandip, reportedly committed suicide by setting herself afire after sprinkling kerosene oil on her clothes in her-in-laws house.

She was immediately rushed to Phagwara civil hospital, but she was referred to Ludhiana hospital due to her critical condition caused by 99 per cent burn injuries. Later, she succumbed to her injuries in the Ludhiana hospital.

In her dying statement given to the police she said that she had taken the extreme step without pressure from anybody else and nobody should be held responsible for her death.

The body of the deceased was sent to civil hospital for postmorterm examination.

A case has been registered and investigation are going on, the police said.
