Musharraf asks parties to work together for formation of new Government

Islamabad, Mar 19 : President Pervez Musharraf has urged all political parties to work amicably for the formation of a new Government.

"It is very regrettable that some circles are pointing a finger at Aiwan-i-Sadr that it is creating hurdle in the formation of the government. The door of Aiwan-i-Sadr is open for all parties. Pakistan is passing through a critical time in its history. All the political parties are same in my eyes," Musharraf said.

"I being the President of Pakistan would continue to play my Constitutional role, and I don't think there should be any delay in the National Assembly session for the nomination of Prime Minister, The Nation quoted him, as telling a PML (Q) delegation that called on him.

"I am a big supporter of democracy. I had introduced democracy at every level in the country. I have fulfilled all the pledges which I had made with the nation," he said.

Expressing his desire to have cordial relations with the incoming government, Musharraf also discussed issues related to the overall political situation in the country, sources said.

He also claimed that he had fulfilled a promise to conduct free and fair elections, and now wanted a smooth transfer of power to the victorious parties.

Sources also informed that Shujaat Hussain resigned from the party's presidentship, requesting Musharraf to take over as the President of the PML-Q. The President reportedly advised the PML-Q leader to keep his house in order during the transition of power.

Meanwhile, Hamid Nasir Chattha who was nominated as the parliamentary leader of the PML-Q in the Punjab Assembly, has rejected a suggestion to be the Leader of the Opposition citing health reasons.
