Mamco repeals control over ginger marketing

Aizawl, Mar 19: The Mizoram Agricultural Marketing Corporation (Mamco) today lifted its control over ginger marketing under the Agricultural Produce Control Act.

A statement issued by the Mamco Managing Director said the decision came after criticism against the Mamco and its dealing partner Engineering India Research Institute (EIRI).

''Reasonable marketing for Mizoram's ginger has been the prime concern of Mamco. Whereas the ginger market has considerably improved since it (Mamco) tied up with EIRI, some traders and middlemen have accused the Mamco of jeopardising their prospects.

Now, with our withdrawal, the ginger growers have freedom to sell their produce wherever and at whatever rate they wish,'' the Mamco statement said.
