Lawyers and Hurriyat took to streets in Kashmir
Srinagar, Mar 19 (UNI) The members of the Kashmir Bar Association (KBA) and Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz) today took to streets in protest against the attack on KBA team in Jammu on March 17.
The Hurriyat leaders led by senior leader Shabir Ahmad Shah and Javid Ahmad Mir started their march from Rajbagh headquarter in protest against the attack on KBA members near Kotbalwal jail in Jammu where they had gone to meet the detenues.
Marching peacefully through different streets, the Hurriyat activists condemned the attack and said they would give proper reply to ''hindu extremists'' peacefully with wisdom and not by violence.
We will definitely give the reply to them, a banner reads.
They later dispersed peacefully at Regal chowk.
Lawyers, who boycotted the court yesterday, again took to streets today.
Starting their march from lower court complex, the lawyers who had handcuffed themselves, said they want freedom.
Raising slogans against those who attacked the Bar members, they alleged that authorities had failed to take any action against the ''hindu extremists''.
Holding banners in their hands, the lawyers said we all are prisoners and want freedom.
Demanding immediate shifting of detenues from outside jails to valley, the lawyers alleged that detenues were not being provided basic facilities in jails and detention centres.
A team of KBA had gone to Jammu to meet the detenues after Jammu and Kashmir High Courts.
The KBA said a number of detenues had turned insane and others are suffering serious diseases because of no proper medical treatment.
They further alleged that hundreds of detenues languishing in jails for years were not being produced in courts by the authorities.
There are cases when detenues were not released despite court orders, they said.
