209 institutions function without AICTE recognition: Fatmi
New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) As many as 209 institutions have been found to be running technical education programmes without the approval of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A A Fatmi informed the Lok Sabha today.
Replying to questions on the subject, he said Maharashtra accounted for the highest number with 82 such institutions, followed by Karnataka (20), Delhi (19), Tamil Nadu (17) and West Bengal (16).
He said the AICTE had placed a list of technical institutions approved by it on its website. It also published notices, from time to time, in leading newspapers, cautioning all concerned to check the approval status of technical institutions before joining them.
