Trade unionists protest price rise of essentials

Guwahati, Mar 18 (UNI) The Joint Council of the Trade Unions of Assam today staged a dharna in front of the District Magistrate office here protesting price rise of the essential goods.

The JCTU in a memorandum submitted to the DM said the price of essentials had jumped upto 40 per cent in the last few weeks.

The JCTU members also demanded scrapping of the forward and future trading.

The policy of the Union Government had only encouraged the big groups, involved in the trade and at the same time the public distribution system (pds) had collapsed.
