TN Govt official arrested for taking bribe

Kancheepuram, Mar 18 (UNI) A Tamil Nadu Backward Class Welfare officer was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 for allowing the shifting of a BC student's hostel.

Police said the officer, Ravoof Ahmed (57), attached to the Kancheepuram Collectorate, had demanded the bribe from Thiruporur BC Students' hostel warden Lakshmi for shifting it to Anakaputhur.

On a complaint preferred by Lakshmi last evening, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police laid a trap and arrested Ahmed.

Police today conducted a raid at the residence of Ahmed at Annalur on the outskirts of Chennai and seized incriminating documents.
