Similarities in footprints refine Ayesha murder case probe

Hyderabad, Mar 18 (UNI) Police today claimed to have made a breakthrough in the sensational Ayesha Mira rape and murder case investigation, with the footprint of the accused showing similarities with the footprint found at the spot.

Speaking to UNI on the phone here, state Additional Director General of Police (DGP) Law and Order A K Khan said there were lot of similarities between the footprint of the accused Laddu, alias Gurvinder Singh, who was arrested in Visakhapatnam in connection with the murder case recently, and the footprint found at the murder spot.

The police was yet to receive the reports of polygraph, DNA and footprint tests conducted by the state Forensic Science Laboratory (APFSL). Laddu's role in the case would be confirmed immediately after submitting the reports to the police, he added.

Meanwhile, the state police department had written a letter to the CBI to take over the investigation. The Government had already announced that the case would be handed over to the Central investigation agency, he added.

The BPharm student Ayesha was raped and murdered in her hostel room in Vijayawada two months ago.

The murder case smeared political colours with the Opposition political parties alleging that the police and state Government had failed to arrest the culprits, as the name of a relative of the Minister came to light during the investigation.
