Member expresses concern over rise in steel prices
New Delhi, Mar 17 (UNI) Expressing concern over the rising steel prices in the country, a BJP member today said if the government did not intervene, it could sound the death knell of an industry dependent on the metal.
Raising the issue during Zero hour in Lok Sabha, Mr Avinsah Rai Khanna from Hoshiarpur in Punjab said the prices of steel had gone up three times in the last two months despite the government's assurance of not allowing any increase in three months.
He said unless the government stablised steel prices, it would lead to closure of industry and a consequent rise in unemployment, adding 4,000 industrial units in Phagwara were on the verge of closure due to steep hike in the prices of the metal.
