Lovers commit suicide fearing community opposition
Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, Mar 18 (UNI) Clan wars are popular over love affairs and exogamy, but tradition preventing endogamy has forced two teenage lovers of the same community to end their lives.
Police said fearing opposition from the family and the community to their love affair, P Palani (19) and S Solaiyammal (15), allegedly committed suicide at their relative's house at Poolankurichi village, near here, by consuming pesticide last night.
As the clan proscribed endogamy and considered them brother and sister, their marriage could never be solemnised. Hence, the duo took the extreme step.
Though they were rushed to the Government Hospital at Ponnamaravathy, both succumbed on the way to the hospital, police added.
