ISRO to get land for its space institute

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 18 (UNI) The Kerala Government today decided to give 40 acres of land at Valiyamala free of cost to the ISRO to set up the campus for the space institute.

Briefing newspersons here after a meeting of the state Cabinet, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said there would not be any displacement of people when the government took over the land at Karippur village in Nedumangad for the purpose.

The ISRO had already been given 20 acres of land in Ponmudi for setting up of telescope and other facilities for the institute.

He said though the government had promised 100 acres of land free of cost for the institute, the ISRO stated that they required only 40 more acres if it was allotted adjacent to its Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) campus.
