Former Manipur minister arrested for molesting, released on bail
New Delhi, Mar 18 (UNI) A former minister in the Manipur cabinet was arrested for allegedly molesting a youth Congress leader in the Chattarpur area of south Delhi.
He was, however, released on bail the same day following his arrest on March 15, according to a senior police official.
Biren Singh was arrested on Saturday last after a 33-year-old woman, who was also a youth Congress leader, called the police on March 14 night alleging her modesty had been outraged by the former Manipur PWD Minister.
''He was arrested the following day while he was preparing to leave for the domestic airport.'' A case has been registered under Section 354, the official said, adding that Singh had come here to lobby for his Rajya Sabha ticket with the Congress. He was staying at Manipur House here.
''He was invited to dinner by the woman and later she alleged that after drinks Singh molested her. When she raised alarm Singh fled from the place.'' The woman lived on the ground floor in a rented accomodation in Chattarpur here, he added.
