Assembly passes PSC Bill 2007, entrusts appointments in TDB

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 18 (UNI) The Kerala Assembly today passed the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) (Additional Functions as respects the Administrative Services under Devaswom Board) Bill, 2007, which entrusts the appointments in the Travancore Dewaswom Board (TDB) with the PSC.

The Bill was passed by voice vote, though the Opposition protested against certain conditions in it. Introducing the Bill in the House, Dewaswom Minister G Sudhakaran said entrusting the appointments in the TDB with the PSC would give more transparency to the recruitments.

He alleged that majority of the TDB officials were corrupt.

The Opposition said the PSC, which consisted of members from different religions, would not have the legal right for appointments in the TDB. If this is challenged in a court, they would not withstand, they added.

Meanwhile, Mr Sudhakaran said the Bill had provisions to withstand every aspect.
