Assembly adopts Bill to prohibit violence against medical persons
Hyderabad, Mar 18 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly tonight adopted a Bill to prohibit violence against medical persons and damages to the property in medical institutions.
Piloting the Bill, Medical Education and Health Insurance Minister G Aruna said the Bill provided imprisonment for offender for three years and fine extending to Rs 50,000. The offender would also be liable to pay a penalty of twice the amount of price of medical equipment damaged.
The Bill was brought out following the High Court's order in the wake of the junior doctors and staff going on strike in protest against violence on junior doctors and medical stalls in the premises of some hospitals.
The Assembly also adopted a Bill piloted by Law and Technical Education Minister R Chenga Reddy to amend the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Act to provide for a provision of Right of Appeal enabling an employee or student to file appeals before the Executive Council against the decision of any officer of the University, which affects the employee or student.
