Villagers drop proposed stir following minister's assurance

Puducherry, Mar 17 (UNI) Residents of Narambai village in Puducherry have dropped their proposed picketing to protest the setting up of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) field in the village following an assurance from Welfare Minister M Kandasamy.

The Minister assured them that the IRB field would not be set up in the village.

The government had acquired land at Narambai to set up the IRB field to which the villagers protested. They also prevented the Force from putting up tents and announced a picketing agitation following which Mr Kandasamy called for talks.
