Banks speed up lending in year-end rush

New Delhi, Mar 17, 2008 : According to the Reserve Bank of India or RBI"s weekly statistical supplement, bank credit growth for the year so far stands at 21.9%. Over the fortnight ended February 29, 2008, bank credit grew Rs 41,481 crore to Rs 22.5 lakh crore.

While food credit meanwhile rose to Rs 1,493 crore, and non-food credit moved up Rs 39,988 crore during the fortnight.
