Two persons arrested for loot and murder

Kendrapara, Mar 17 (UNI) Two persons were arrested in connection with dacoity and murder of a vegetable vendor at Gopalpur market of Jagatsinghpur district yesterday.

Manoj Moharana of Gopalpur and Sangram Rout of Balipatana village were produced before the Jagatsingpur SDJM court later in the day and remanded to jail custody after their bail petitions were rejected.

District Superintendent of Police R K Sharma said efforts were on to nab three more criminals involved in the dacoity.

Police said a gang of dacoits, including the accused, looted precious ornaments worth of Rs five lakh from a jewellery shop owned by one Subash Swain yesterday and shot him dead after he tried to get hold of the miscreants.

This had enraged the villagers, who blocked the road and demanded to provide a job and adequate compensation to the family members of the deceased.

The SP has assured them of the job and promised them to recommend Subash's name to the government for bravery award.
