Two arrested for stealing jewellery worth Rs 65 lakh

Mumbai, Mar 17 (UNI) Police today arrested two persons, accused of allegedly stealing jewellery worth Rs 65 lakh from the house of a noted Diamond Merchant at Malabar Hill in south Mumbai.

The duo, driver Karan Sardarsingh Sekhawat (39) and domestic servant Vijay Kumar Yadav (22) lived in a flat at Malabar Hill, owned by Shivkumar Garda, who lives in Dubai, and frequently came down to the city, Joint Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria said here.

Recently, when Mr Garda came back to the city, he found some diamond jewellery missing from the cupboard. He later lodged a complaint with the police.

The duo had sold jewellery worth Rs 65 lakh in the past six months, to a Borivali-based jeweller Bhavan Lal Soni.

Around Rs 25 lakh worth jewellery has been recovered from their possession, Mr Maria added.

Soni has also been arrested by police and investigation is in progress, he stated.
