Trust forced to call off Husain's felicitation

Mumbai, Mar 17 (UNI) Rajasthan-based Bhoruka Charitable Trust had to cancel the function to confer the lifetime achievement award upon painter M F Husain following strong protests by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS).

The trust had arranged a function to felicitate Husain at Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai on March 15. About 18 eminent Indian artists had flown to Dubai to felicitate the painter.

HJS coordinator Shivaji Vatkar said his organisation had launched an intensive campaign against the awarding of Husain.

The HJS had met representatives of the Bhoruka Charitable Trust at Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur and Bangalore and lodged their protest. The trust, subsequently, called off the function, Mr Vatkar claimed.
