Security forces on toes in Lal Chowk, nerve centre of Srinagar
Srinagar, Mar 17 (UNI) Security forces in the Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital of the Jammu and Kashmir, were on their toes today conducting searches of vehicles and frisking passengers.
Passenger and other vehicles, including three wheelers, passing through the historic chowk were being stopped for checking.
All the passengers were being directed to deboard the vehicle and their identity cards properly checked before allowing them to board the vehicle again after thorough inspection.
The vehicles were also properly searched.
The searches, according to official sources, were conducted as 50 kg of deadly RDX was recovered from a vehicle at Awantipora on Srinagar-Jammu national highway yesterday afternoon.
CRPF and police personnel, guarding the city are conducting random search operations to prevent any untoward incident and smuggling of arms and ammunition from outskirts.
